The Christmas Singing: by Cindy Woodsmall
Goodreads Summery: After Gideon coldly broke her heart, can the warmth of the season revive Mattie’s hopes?
Mattie thought her childhood sweetheart adored her until he abruptly ended their engagement on Christmas Eve.
Three years later, will learning the truth behind his rejection restore her Christmas joy – or open the door to even deeper heartbreak?
Spend Christmas with the Amish in this story of love, romance, heartache, and restoration.
Mattie is a cake decorator and she is living in Ohio where she moved three years ago after her long time boyfriend broke her heart. She is dating Sol but deep down she can’t stop thinking about Gideon.
Three years ago Gideon did the hardest thing he has even done broke up with the woman he loved. Even after breaking up with her he kept tabs on her with out her knowing. He has kept a secret from her and now it threatens to be revealed when circumstances bring them face to face again. Will they find love again for will the secret be to much to over come?
This was a great book I loved it. Even though Mattie has moved away Gideon still holds her heart and when she sees him again old feelings come back. She is dating Sol because he is safe. She finds herself back home at Christmas and face to face with Gideon. I almost forgot this was a novella! The readers again get to meet Beth and Jonah from the authors last Christmas Novella The Sound of Sleigh Bells. I loved seeing these characters again and how they helped shape this story.
I was surprised that Gideon’s secret had been kept for so long in such a tight community it almost seemed to me it would have been impossible. I also found it hard to believe that Mattie never found out that Gideon came to check up on her from time to time. I loved the fact that she was a cake decorator and reading the description of her cakes.
Even though this is a shorter story I thought the author did a great job of growing these characters through out the story. When this book ended I did not feel like anything was left unfinished I was just sad to see it end. A must read this holiday season!
